Following the disturbances caused by Young Boys fans during the Europa League match against Aston Villa, UEFA has announced the punishment.
The Swiss are not allowed to sell tickets to their fans for the next away game in Stuttgart in January. They will also be fined.
The images caused a huge uproar: Last week, Young Boys fans threw objects onto the pitch during a Europa League match against Aston Villa (1-2) and clashed with police. Some of them were arrested in the stadium, and the next day, several Bern fans were stopped at Birmingham Airport.
In addition to the individual perpetrators, the club is also being punished: Young Boys is prohibited from selling tickets to its fans for the upcoming away match in the Europa League. This also applies to the away match in Stuttgart (January 29). In addition, the Bernese club has been fined approximately 45,000 Swiss francs. The sanctions are imposed for throwing objects onto the pitch, damaging the stadium and its facilities, and disturbing spectators. Young Boys has not yet commented on the amount of the fine.
Problematic people face stadium ban
The club therefore made it clear: “Anyone who does not abide by the rules or cannot live up to our values is not welcome at BSC Young Boys.” Young Boys president Marcel Brylhart announced in an interview that fans who have clearly committed violations will be banned from the stadium. He also stated that dialogue with fan organizations will be intensified.
