FIFA is gathering the teams that will take part in the 2025 Club World Cup, opening a new market session. The news comes from Spain, where "Marca" has once again hypothesized that the "World Football Government" could open a ten-day window for all clubs that will fly to the USA to participate in this competition. The purpose? Address the issue of contracts expiring on 30 June 2025, halfway through the new World Cup, allowing clubs to take immediate action. The decision was then confirmed by the FIFA Council, which approved the tournament's regulations.
The World Cup, which runs from Sunday 15 June to Sunday 13 July 2025, will see 32 clubs compete against each other, with the threat that a player could start the tournament and then leave the team due to the end of his contract. An absurdity that would land clubs in serious trouble, with FIFA poised to take action.
The solution would be to open a new transfer window only and exclusively for the 32 participants in the tournament. From 1 to 10 June, to mitigate any departures on a free transfer, a transfer window will open to allow clubs to replace starters.
According to the regulations, FIFA member associations of clubs participating in the FIFA Club World Cup will have the opportunity to open an extraordinary transfer window from 1 to 10 June 2025 (for all participating clubs). before the start of the competition. The decision whether or not to open an additional window remains at the sole discretion of each FIFA Member Association concerned.
After the deadline for submitting squad lists, as some players' contracts will expire halfway through the competition, participating clubs will be able to replace players during a limited period in the competition, from 27 June to 3 July 2025, within an advance deadline, set limit and subject to specific restrictions, including that a 'standard' registration window must be open for the club at that time. However, the aim is to encourage clubs and players whose contracts expire to find a suitable solution to facilitate the players' participation.
