The Italian Interior Ministry has decided to suspend organized trips for Roma and Fiorentina fans until the end of this Serie A season. The decision came after last weekend's clashes on the highway between groups of fans of the two clubs, as well as due to previous precedents considered problematic at home and abroad.
Before the announcement of the measure, Lega Serie A president Ecio Simonelli commented on the situation, stressing that such behavior damages the image of Italian football.
" What happened is very serious. We are doing so much to build a clean image of football and these things absolutely do not help. I sent a message of gratitude to the police for their efforts in maintaining public order ," he said.
The Serie A leader ended the statement with a strong call.
" Italian football cannot allow sport to be mixed with criminal matters and fights that endanger people's health ," said Ezio Simonelli.
