The Superior Category will not start on August 19, as it was predicted by the Executive Committee of the ALF itself, but it has been postponed to August 26. The news was confirmed yesterday by the football institution through an official communiqué, saying that this came as a result of the request of the majority of the clubs.
"The Department of Competitions in the Albanian Football Federation informs that the start of the season of the national championship, Superior Category for the season 2023-2024 has been postponed by one week. The new football season was scheduled to start on August 19, while after the request of the majority of clubs to postpone the start of the activity by one week, which was considered by the Executive Committee of the AFL, it was postponed to the following date August 26, 2023, when the first week will take place. Regarding this change in the calendar, the clubs participating in Superiore have also been notified", the federation announced yesterday.
Behind the Scenes – But what's wrong with this postponement? First, there is a marked lack of seriousness on the part of the AFL itself, which, on the eve of the new season, starts with a postponement without having a major reason. "Panorama Sport" reveals that not all clubs have agreed with this postponement, as training plans have already been disrupted and at this moment some may be favored and others may have problems from this decision, not having a draw. It is known that Teuta and Vllaznia were against the fact that the starting date of the championship should be moved by one week.
On the other hand, "Panorama Sport" learns that even the AFL itself is not ready, as it has not yet resolved the sale of TV rights. This issue is certainly major, as it is directly related to the income of the clubs. The AFL announced at the end of June about the termination of cooperation with "OverSport", but the winner for the TV rights of the new season has not yet been determined. Now it remains to be seen how this impasse will be resolved, while the postponement in this situation can be good for the teams that have not yet completed the group.
With this move, the AFL gives a hand to the teams that are being organized late for various reasons, and Erzeni, Dinamo and Kukësi are undoubtedly included here. On the other hand, it seems a handicap for teams that have played in Europe such as Tirana, Partizani, Vllaznia and Egnatia. However, apart from the fact that which teams have asked for it and which are against or which benefit in Albania, it has become customary for the start of the Superiore to always be postponed, showing a marked lack of seriousness for what can be called the most important football competition in place.
Besides changing the formula for the team that wins the title in the end, changing the date before the championship has even started, shows that many things are not going right.
