Captain First Rank and former deputy commander of the Albanian Navy, Artur Meçollari, has exposed Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha. Yesterday he was sworn in by the president, but Ferit Hoxha is the chief negotiator of the maritime agreement with Greece in 2009, an agreement when the Berisha government gave the sea to Athens. Meçollari has released a video where Hoxha defends the agreement with pathos, which was overturned by the Constitutional Court and Ferit Hoxha was taken under investigation by the prosecution.
Which Ferit should we trust for the 2009 agreement (in voice and image)? Or should we trust the one now who will make the agreement for The Hague?
Six months after the maritime agreement with Greece was signed, Ferit Hoxha, today Foreign Minister, defended it as right.
On October 16, 2009, at the European University of Tirana, he stated that "the latest media debates are based only on conjectures", while on April 30, 2009, he himself had offered the text of the agreement to journalist Tedi Blushi with the note " it conflicts with the national interests of Albania ".
Ferit Hoxha was the Head of the Negotiating Group from 2007 to 2009 and signed the draft agreement on behalf of the Negotiating Group. Without his signature, the two foreign ministers could not sign it. The agreement, which also bears Ferit Hoxha's signature, was struck down by the Constitutional Court in 2010 for violating the Constitution of the Republic of Albania.
According to Klan TV on October 16, 2009, Ferit Hoxha stated at the European University of Tirana:
According to the former Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, currently the representative diplomat of our country in the UN, Ferit Hoxha, the latest media debates are based only on my guesses, according to him, the agreement only serves to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Ferit Hoxha: " There is no doubt, not in my mind, but in what I would like to be as representative as possible, that is, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that the agreement represents a moment of extremely great importance in the relations between the two countries. There was a border declared by our side, but never negotiated, never divided, never defined with precise geographical coordinates. The only dividing line with Greece is the one defined by the agreement signed in 2009, by this agreement that we are talking about. It was discussed in direct or remote meetings to harmonize the language of the text of the agreement and in particular to make the necessary measurements to repair it until we reached the conclusion that the coordinates of the Greek side matched the coordinates of the Albanian side. Then it moved to the next phase, which was called a closed text and satisfactory to both sides ."
