On September 12, it will be 26 years since the murder of Azem Hajdar, the leader of the Student Movement, in front of the headquarters of the Democratic Party. The journalist Ferdinand Dervishi, who also wrote a book about this event, brought some details in the 'Frontline Interview' from that time, starting from the student movement when Azem Hajdari emerged as a leader and then as a politician in his murder on September 12, 1998. in front of the headquarters of the Democratic Party.
Dervishi told Marsela Karapanço that Azemi's murder happened at a time when Albania was coming after the year of unrest in 1997, where everyone was armed and the main role was taken by the gangs with whom the politics of power cooperated. SP at that time started an alliance with the Haklaj family in Tropoja, but Berisha and Hajdar could not accept this because Tropoja was their stronghold and their home.
We came after the wild 97, at that time 97 literally destroyed the Albanian society. Everyone had a Kalashnikov at home. Gangs, organized crime were created. Entire communities were taken hostage. In Tropoja, they like to play the role of Haklaj police chiefs. They had a left-wing political affiliation. In a country where gangs make the law, you can play a game, the gang game. There is no state, police. In Tropoja, the Socialist Party supported Haklaj. But Tropoja was the stronghold of Berisha and Hajdar. They could not accept that the area was not controlled by them. This is where the objection arises. Then there is interference, there is arms traffic. At that time, the left supported the KLA, Berisha supported the other wing. All this led to conflicts. They lead you to the Kalashnikov ,' he said.
According to Dervish, it is thought that the conflict between Haklaj and Azem Hajdari started here and not earlier, which culminated in the murder of the student leader in 90.
I don't know if they had problems with each other. When two people from a small area become representatives of an area, people who love them are born. I don't believe that there were problems with each other. Problems are fueled by politics. Berisha or Azemi did not accept that the SP would dominate in Tropoja. Because of this, a crack was made there. On one side came Haklaj with his men, from the other side Berisha with his men. And it created violence , he said.
Azemi was at a rally in Fier before he came to Tirana to be killed. Meanwhile, they knew about his murder before, Dervishi says, so much so that the whole of Tirana knew.
He finished the rally and came to Tirana. PD had just lost power. Even Hajdari that day in Fier, there were no more than 100 people. He came to Tirana, he wanted to see the plans on a TV and what happens during this period. On the day of the assassination, everyone except Azemi knew everything that was happening ', said the journalist.
Azem Hajdari had already taken two bodyguards to guard him, as he escaped assassinations many times.
They knew since May, it was known that Haklaj wanted to kill Azem Hajdari. He had taken two bodyguards. He knew something could happen. He had tribal ties with Haklaj. One of them was not in the murder. What is not eaten is the fact that only Azem Hajdari did not know that he was going to kill. In Tirana, everyone knew that they had come and were acting around the DP. It is even said that the night before all the premises of the DP were empty. Where is the state? ', he expressed.
Furthermore, for Dervish, the role of Izet Haxhi, Sali Berisha's former bodyguard, who, according to Dervish, has stood behind Azemi since the beginning of the student movement remains an enigma in this story.
Izet Haxhia is the most enigmatic character of this story. He is a two-faced man, both Berisha's bodyguard and accused of Hajdar's murder. At the time we didn't know at the time. If we had known that Berisha's bodyguard killed Azemi, September 14 would not have happened. How is it possible that this man has been standing behind Azemi the whole time. I am afraid that from the beginning of the student movement until the last day, he controlled it from behind. There is a scene where he takes Azem when he was trying to build the Independent Syndicates. The role of Izet Haxhi in this story is very surprising , said Dervishi.
The Haklaj, according to Dervish, knew that Azemi was behind the assassinations against their family.
Berisha was the president of the country at that time. There is no great proof that it is correct. The way senior leaders act is with gestures. You can't blame him for this story. I had the opportunity to meet her, one of Fatmir Haklaj's sisters. I ask him, why Azemin. And he told me, after every direct killing of people nearby, Azemi appeared to us. If the murder was in Tropoja. Azemi was in Kukes. It always comes close to us. This shows that there was a conspiracy against Haklaj. Zylfije Haklaj also killed a person from Fieri. It is assumed that there was a group that hit Haklaj and it is not surprising that the head of this group was Azemi. They were convinced that Hajdari was behind this organization. That's why they come to attack Azem , he said.
Finally, Dervishi also gives an assessment of Azemi regarding his figure as more fatherly and cooperative even with socialists unlike Berisha, as he liked to spend time with intellectuals and writers.
When Berisha spoke for the first time, Azemi stood behind him to show his respect. He was not so mischievous as to take this one day. Because he was less mischievous, he was more fatherly. He was a grandfather at the time of the first Sali. He cooperated with everyone, even with the socialists when it came to work. He used to hang out with Spartak Njjela, Ismail Kadare , the journalist confessed.
