Would SPAK exist if Berisha was prime minister? Spahiu: The role of the US is

Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu comments on Prime Minister Edi Rama's messages about justice reform during the meeting with Albanians in Thessaloniki. Spahiu says that the role of the US in the justice reform process is undeniable, stressing that thanks to US pressure, the justice reform was voted.

LSI (now the Freedom Party) and PD were the two parties that did not want this reform, says Spahiu, while raising the question if SPAK would exist and would it be able to arrest, if Berisha was prime minister?

"This is a big debate that Rama started at the meeting in New York, he took care to repeat it in Thessaloniki, today there is a strong debate in Albania, whether SPAK is independent, whether SPAK is led by SP, or whether all the successes and the arrests of SPAK are due to the American support and this success should belong to the USA. There are some truths that we must accept. The role of the USA is undeniable in the justice reform process, due to the fact that if it were not for the pressure of the USA in 2015-2016, when the justice reform was voted, the quorum of 93 votes that was necessary for constitutional changes. Those who objected and pressure was exerted were LSI and PD, the two forces that did not want the reform in justice, on the other hand we must take into account one fact, they are the same prosecutors, the same embassy, the same foreign experts. Why today, why now, why SPAK has been successful these three years.

In the entire history of politics and justice in these 34 years, there has been a strong battle between the executive and judicial systems. The question is whether a democratic government would allow the construction of SPAK. That these prosecutors who work in SPAK today have worked before. Why haven't there been prime ministers, ministers and deputies arrested. This is the reality that must be accepted. Not that there have been no attempts to arrest high-level politicians, but the political pressure has been so strong that it has destroyed every attempt of justice for high-level arrests", said Kreshnik Spahiu for "Report Tv".
