The withdrawal of Jared Kushner and Saudi funds from the Sazan resort project has shaken the plans for "Albania 2030", leaving Edi Rama without his golden investors and without the Gulf pockets that financed his Mediterranean dream.
For more than two weeks, rumors have been circulating in Tirana about Jared Kushner's withdrawal from the project to build a luxury resort on Sazan Island.
After the Belgrade project was abandoned, this was widely rumored, but Kushner stated at an investment forum that the Albania project was still "in its orbit."
However, with his direct involvement in Donald Trump's cabinet for the Gaza reconstruction plan, everything has become clearer.
As usual, it's all about the money. The main financiers of the project, the Saudi funds, have shifted their interest.
As Donald Trump himself said, the wealthy Gulf countries will focus billions of dollars in funds on the reconstruction of Gaza, which is now seen as the largest Arab investment site, with not only economic, but also geopolitical and strategic importance.
In this new panorama, it is much more valuable for the Arabs to turn the Palestinian Riviera into a "tourism jewel" than Enver Hoxha's former bunker in the Otranto Canal.
The withdrawal of the Saudis from Sazan is not just a momentary problem, but a shock that could create a huge gap in the financial project of "Albania 2030", Edi Rama's dream of an "Arabian paradise" from Durres to Sazan, where the sheikhs would launder and multiply the Mediterranean money of luxury tourism.
The much-talked-about Mohamed Alabbar has not set foot in Albania for a long time, while the sheikhs who once frequented Rama's premises have almost completely disappeared.
This "Arab drought" has become a fact, so Rama has returned to bowing to the bureaucrats of Brussels, appearing more "European" than the Europeans themselves, in the hope that he will keep open the political and financial channels that are being closed one after another.
According to sources close to his circle, the loss of Sazan's investment, for which he had lobbied and spent more than two years, has hit the prime minister hard, leading him into a state of strong political and personal uncertainty.
In reality, Rama is experiencing the period of greatest loneliness in his political career, abandoned from the outside and isolated from the inside.
