For nearly five hours, thousands of citizens have been marching through the streets of Tirana, turning the capital into the scene of one of the largest mobilizations in recent years. The national anthem, patriotic chants, and anti-government slogans have accompanied the protest throughout the evening.
The civic protest continued uninterrupted for nearly five hours, while thousands of protesters crossed the main streets of the capital several times, marching from the Prime Minister's Office on the boulevard, towards the center of Tirana, the University Corps area, and then returning again in front of the government building.
The atmosphere during the march was characterized by a strong patriotic spirit. With red and black flags in their hands, citizens sang the National Anthem and well-known patriotic songs, while cheers echoed throughout the protest route.
"Revolution", "Rama resign", "Albania of Albanians", "The homeland is not for sale", "Join us", "How good it would be to be Albanian", "Rama is gone", "Edi Rama is finished", "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison" and "Opposition sold out" were some of the most heard chants during the evening.
Footage from the march shows a massive turnout, with long columns of protesters continuing to move through the streets of the capital even after several hours of mobilization.
Support for the protest has also been shown by citizens who were not part of it. In many cases, drivers have used their car horns to greet the march, while others have spontaneously joined the crowd along the road.
Young people, students, families with children, and citizens of different ages have been part of the protest, which on its ninth day is showing not only sustainability, but also growing participation.
As the march continues on the streets of Tirana, protesters say their anger is linked to corruption, misgovernment, the departure of young people and the lack of prospects in the country. After nearly five hours of protest, the message coming from the streets of the capital remains the same: the demand for political change and for a different Albania.
