Aldor Nini, the head of Acromax, has spoken about the impact of TikTok on Albanian society and the news of its closure by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
He emphasized that TikTok's algorithm enables a very fast distribution of information, making it more effective than other platforms such as YouTube, Instagram or Facebook.
Nini said on "Syri Tv" that this speed has significant effects, especially for those who face attacks on this platform, feeling greater pressure if the attack has an argumentative basis.
He cited a report from Reuters, which found that TikTok, Instagram and YouTube are among the most trusted platforms for political information globally. In this context, banning TikTok would have serious consequences for Albania.
Nini recalled that Albania has signed international agreements that prohibit the restriction of digital services without scientific studies. Likewise, the violation of the Stabilization-Association Agreement with the EU would damage the country's European perspective. These measures, according to him, risk distancing Albania from Europe and bringing it closer to authoritarian models such as Russia or Turkey.
Aldor Nini: Something I heard a lot here is the dangerousness of TikTok.
The danger of TikTok has a very simple reason: TikTok's algorithm makes it possible for information to be transmitted much faster to a much wider group of our population than on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. This means that, if a scandal happens on YouTube, it becomes public as usual, but it is much faster to spread on TikTok; within 6 hours the whole of Albania may have found out.
And we go back to the point that people who are attacked normally suffer more from TikTok because, if an attack has an argumentative basis, then it feels bigger.
On the other hand, I have seen a report from Reuters, in terms of trust in the population regarding news related to politics. Interestingly, they asked 95 thousand different people in 47 countries, which represent half of the world's population as countries, and it turned out that TikTok, Instagram and YouTube were classified as the platforms that these people give them the highest credibility for political information. So we have TikTok in here too.
As for the legal consequences that the closure of TikTok may have for Albania, we have signed a series of conventions with different countries, with the European Union, with China, which actually prohibit us from stopping a digital service in the territory of Albania. , especially without having a scientific study.
We also have the Stabilization-Association Agreement with the European Union, which is very important, because by violating that agreement, we leave Europe. As Klevio said, this will lead us to a "new Turkey" or a "new Russia." In other words, with these measures we are taking, we are not getting closer to Europe.
