The 816 tons of hazardous waste that was headed for Thailand and raised local and foreign authorities, came out of KURUM in Elbasan as 'iron oxide'.

In the declaration that was made at customs on July 4, it was stated that the final destination was Thailand, while the company that received the quantity is GS MINERALS registered in Rijeka, Croatia. The entire quantity has not gone through the scanner control as it is a re-flowable material and is excluded from this control.
For all suspected violations and the entire process of the case from KURUM, where the origin of the hazardous waste is, the transport and passage to the port, the Durrës Prosecutor's Office has started investigations since August 16 for the criminal offense "Smuggling of prohibited or restricted goods ".
The news has been confirmed by the prosecuting authority itself, which says that the registration of the criminal proceedings, within which the investigations are being carried out in close cooperation with OLAF and other international institutions, was made after the materials submitted and referred by the General Directorate of Customs, while the Durrës police also submitted the file to the prosecutor's office after conducting the first investigations for the crimes "Transportation of waste" for the company "Sokolaj" and "Abuse of duty" for some officials of the Port, whose names are not disclosed. know.
Report TV contacted the owner of the transport company, Gjovana Sokolaj, who confirmed the cooperation and contract with KURUM International.
A day ago it was the Ministry of Environment which confirmed exclusively for Report TV that the amount of material was brought to the Port from KURUMI in Elbasan, and was loaded in Durrës in containers owned by the international line MSC.
