The Durrës Prosecutor's Office has reacted to the scandal of traffic in toxic substances. A ship was stopped in Thailand with materials suspected to have left the Elbasan Metallurgical and then clandestinely sent to Thailand. But the ship was discovered and is turning back.
The Prosecutor's Office informs that it has started the investigation for the Criminal Offense "Smuggling of prohibited or restricted goods" on the cargo sent from the Port of Durrës
" The Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of Durrës General Jurisdiction has registered criminal proceedings no. 1596, dated 16.08.2024, based on the materials referred by the General Directorate of Customs for the criminal offense "Smuggling of prohibited or restricted goods ", provided for by article 171 of the Penal Code in relation to a load sent from the Port of Durrës.
Also in this institution, the investigation material from the Durrës Local Police Directorate, for the criminal offense "Transportation of waste", provided by article 201/bi of the Criminal Code and "Abuse of duty", provided for by article 248 of the Criminal Code, where referred to information received from the media regarding this shipment, which is suspected of having toxic waste , "announces the prosecution.
The prosecution also informs that intensive investigative actions are being carried out in cooperation with the European Office against Economic Fraud (OLAF) and Albanian law enforcement institutions and international partners, in order to quickly and fully clarify all the circumstances of the event.
