The mystery of how the poisonous substances came out of the port, the prosecutor's office investigates in Elbasan and Durrës....

A large-scale scandal has erupted in the last few days, after a ship was stopped in Thailand with dangerous substances sent from Albania. It was also discovered that similar shipments had gone to China. The government has been silent for several days and only yesterday it remembered to react, but it seems that all institutions blame each other for the scandal.

Mirela Kumbaro said yesterday that the dangerous substances seized in Taiwan belong to Elbasan Metallurgical. According to her, they were loaded onto the ship and transported clandestinely. " Volumes of goods which are suspected to contain waste from the technological process carried out by international companies operating near the metallurgical complex in Elbasan, have been loaded into container units near the Rifuxhio Goods Terminal in Durrës, which is operated by the German concessionaire company EMS. The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has not given any authorization and as a result the company has not presented data on the destination of the cargo ", it was said in the reaction of the Ministry of Environment.

But today the company 'Kurum' reacted, wanting to wash its hands and remove responsibility from itself. The Turks claim that they have not sent any hazardous waste to any country. " Kurum International has never exported hazardous waste, so even in this case this cargo in question was not exported by Kurum International. This fact is easily verifiable by the relevant institutions, the General Directorate of Customs and Albanian ports. Kurum International, based on the environmental permit it owns, respects all national and international rules and laws, including the Basel Convention, for the treatment of hazardous and non-hazardous industrial waste generated during the production process, the object of the company's work . says Kurum.

But they were bluffed, as there was dust in the containers from the metal furnaces. Furnace dust, which requires treatment, is a hazardous waste product that usually comes from steel scrap recycling and contains toxic metal oxides such as cadmium and chromium that are harmful to health and the environment.

There was also a reaction today from the Customs of Albania, which reacted to the rumors that waste was sent to China, but did not say a word about those from Thailand. Customs also washed their hands, saying that the remains are from Kosovo and not from Albania. According to her, the port served transit.

" The case cited by the media is not an export from Albania, but an international transit of the zinc concentrate product from Kosovo. So, the product is zinc concentrate originating from Kosovo with the sending/exporting company Apelbaum shpk with the address Rr. Fehmi Agani, Pristina/Kosovo; The receiving/importing company is ACHRO AG based in Steinhausen Switzerland. The Swiss firm ACHRO AG is the orderer according to the BILL OF LOADING (B/L) of the shipping company MAERSK for the transport of this product (LOW GRADE ZINC CONCENTRATE) to the host firm GUANGXI LOGISTICS INDUSTRY INTERNATIONAL TRADE CO. LTD, NANNING, China ", says Customs.

Meanwhile, the Durrës prosecutor's office has started investigations to shed more light. The investigations have been extended to two cities; Elbasan and Durrës. The dynamics and route of how these large cargoes were transported to the port and how they were allowed to board the ship remains a mystery.

Initially, it was the Durrës Police that carried out the preliminary procedures of verification and criminal proceedings, passing the file on to the District Prosecutor's Office. The police confirm the completion of the procedures, as the suspect for the transport of waste as a subcontractor is the company "Sokolaj". Officials of the Port of Durrës, who allegedly allowed the export of waste to Thailand in violation of the law, are under investigation and verification for the criminal offense of "abuse of duty". / Pamphlet
