Athlete David Nikolli has made a public denunciation, claiming that he has faced consequences after participating in the protests that have been taking place in front of the Prime Minister's Office for 21 days, where various citizens are demanding the removal of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the government.
In a video posted on social media, Nikolli claims he was fired for his involvement in the protest. He says he will pursue all legal procedures to challenge the decision and protect his rights.
Nikolli emphasizes that he is the Balkan champion with eight medals, holds 12 national records, and that just a few days ago he was declared national champion in two athletics disciplines.
According to him, despite his sporting results, he has been fired from his job in the state sector and his sporting merits are not being recognized due to his participation in civic protests.
He warned that together with his legal representatives he will follow all avenues provided by law to seek the restoration of his rights.
At the end of the reaction, Nikolli stated that he will not back down in the face of what he considers pressure, adding that "free people cannot be afraid."
"I am here to denounce the charade of the current government. As a champion who has represented my country with pride and given everything in sports, today I face this injustice."
I am the Balkan champion with 8 medals, I have 12 national records and just a few days ago I won the Albanian national championship in two competitions.
I'm being stripped of my government job and my titles are not recognized just because I went out to protest with the youth as a free citizen.
"These injustices against me and against the youth will be legally punished together with my lawyers. I will follow all legal avenues to protect my rights. Don't worry, time will fix everything. Free people cannot be afraid," he said.
