Democratic Party MP, Klevis Balliu, visited the premises of Police Station No. 3 in Tirana with protesters arrested during the July 2 protest near the Parliament.
After the meeting, Balliu declared that the detainees are determined to continue the protests, while accusing the State Police of unjust arrests and warning that its leaders will be held accountable.
"Today I had the opportunity to meet the citizens who were unjustly arrested. They were more motivated than ever and very grateful to all Albanians, especially to their friends, who stood by them in front of the detention rooms until late at night ," said Balliu.
Balliu also said that the Democratic Party will hold State Police leaders accountable for the way the protest was managed.
"While the criminal acts of the government's police will receive the deserved response, the Democratic Party will call the Police Director to account," he declared.
The MP rejected accusations of violence against the protesters and called them "resisters", accusing the government of repression against citizens.
"It is shameful to accuse these citizens of violence, when they, even when there were 200 thousand protesters, did not commit any act of violence. It is a shame that today these heroes are in prison, while Parliament and state institutions have been usurped by the thieves of the narco-power. But these resisters were clear that they will not stop. Shame will cover all those who remain silent in the face of this injustice," he concluded.
