The first session will take place at 10:00, while a little earlier, at 09:30, Malltez's request for release from house arrest will be considered.

Today, the trial against Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha and his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, for the "Partizani" affair begins at the Special Anti-Corruption Court.

The first session will take place at 10:00, while a little earlier, at 09:30, Malltez's request for release from house arrest will be considered.

Sali Berisha, his son-in-law and the three other defendants faced each other in the dock for the first time as defendants in a criminal trial. It is not known whether Berisha will be present at the hearing or represented by lawyers.

The case will be tried by a three-judge panel, with Elsa Ulliri as presiding judge, Bib Ndreca and Rudina Palloi as members of the panel. None of the defendants have requested a summary trial, which means it will be a lengthy process.

Meanwhile, Judge Elsa Ulliri has filed a request to resign from the trial of the "Partizani" case. In her arguments, she says that she is a cousin of Democratic MP Andia Ulliri. At 10:00, the hearing on the merits begins, where the decision on the judge's request is expected to be announced. It is not yet known whether the request has been accepted or not.

The case went to trial on May 19, a few days after the May 11 elections.

Berisha will be tried on charges of passive corruption of senior officials, as he is accused of having, in his capacity as prime minister, taken concrete actions in approving laws and by-laws, where his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, was also a beneficiary.

Malltezi is accused of passive corruption and money laundering. According to SPAK, he has illegally benefited from a construction business worth 5.4 million euros thanks to government decisions taken by his father-in-law.

Fatmir Bektashi is accused of corruption and money laundering, Malltez's partner and land heir Xhimi Begeja, and financier Andia Pustina, who handled the financial and legal affairs of the company "Homeplan", are accused of money laundering. In addition, three companies "Kontakt", "Homeplan" and "Studio Pustina" have also been sent to trial for money laundering.

Sali Berisha is currently under the security measure of "compulsory appearance" at the prosecutor's office, while his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, is under house arrest.
