The head of PDBDNJ, Vangjel Dule, in a media briefing from the Assembly, raised the concern that, according to him, violations are being committed in the registration of the Greek minority in the 2023 Census.
According to Dules, pollsters are not recording on tablets, but taking notes on the side. Dule said that enumerators do not ask citizens about ethnicity, mother tongue and religion.
"We have tried to convey a spirit of cooperation with the aim of a democratic result and accepted by all. With concern, we are presenting the findings to the PBDNJ activists, regarding the development of the Censit. First of all, there are many cases when the registrars, in violation of the law, do not they record with the relevant tablets but keep notes with the promise that they will throw them away later. No written notice is left as required by law in apartments where there is no citizen. We have reported cases such as in Tirana, Korça, Saranda, and elsewhere where no Citizens are asked questions about ethnicity, mother tongue and religious belief. They are told that these are optional. The answer from the registrars is mandatory.
A businessman in Saranda was repeatedly asked 3 times if he was sure he was a Greek minority because he had property and assets. There is aggressive nationalist rhetoric in many media outlets raising hypothetical unreal threats. They are turning the process into a farce. The EU should ensure that the 2023 Census for the registration of religious minorities does not fail," said Dule.
