Albanian activist living in London, Dritan Toçi, announced that over 300 Albanians have left Great Britain for Albania to join the announced protest.
According to Toçi, the participants will start the symbolic march from Shkodra, and then continue towards Tirana. He did not provide details on the organization of the protest, stating that he will make the details public at a later date.
In a direct connection with News24, Toçi said that he has been living and working in the United Kingdom for 13 years and that during this period he and his associates have held protests every weekend in front of the Albanian Embassy in London.
According to him, the protest aims to express the dissatisfaction of the diaspora and citizens towards the government. He stated that the executive has failed and demanded its immediate removal.
The activist said that the participants are seeking "a better future" and that the protest is organized by citizens and the diaspora, adding that their goal is, according to him, "to return Albania to the Albanians."
Speaking about the possibility of incidents during the protest, Toçi expressed his regret if clashes arise and that "anything can happen," but added that the government bears responsibility for such a situation. He demanded a reaction from the institutions.
Toçi also announced that their activities will not stop with this protest. According to him, another group will hold a protest the next day in London.
He compared the protest he represents to rallies organized by political parties, saying that no acts of violence or property damage were recorded during their protests. He called on Albanians to put aside political divisions and unite around, in his opinion, the country's interest.
