In 2023, the autumnal equinox falls on Saturday, September 23. During the equinox, the number of hours of day and night are almost equal, since the sun shines directly on the equator. Equinox can have two meanings in astronomy: the moment when the Sun is perpendicular to the Earth's equator and the apparent location of the Sun at that moment. A point in time at which the vernal equinox, celestial equator, and other such elements are used to define the celestial coordinate system. Equinox in astronomy is the instant of time (not a full day) when the center of the Sun can be observed directly above the Earth's equator, around March 20 and September 23 each year.
It is also said when the sun falls in the well, that is, the reflection of the sun in a well, a phenomenon that does not occur and cannot be verified in any other terrestrial parallel. On these two dates, day and night are equal, each of 12 hours. During the equinoxes, the sun rises precisely in the east and sets precisely in the west.
