International Workers' Day, how May 1st was born

May 1st is known as International Workers' Day. This event was born from the struggle of workers to demand and secure their rights, freedoms, and working and living conditions.

This day refers to workers' protests, for an 8-hour workday, for guaranteed average wages, and for protective equipment in the workplace.

The first public demand was presented in Australia in 1885 with this content: "8 hours of work, 8 hours of play and 8 hours of sleep."

The celebration of May 1 is closely linked to the widespread and bloody protests of tens of thousands of Chicago factory workers in America, on May 1, 1886.

The massive and grandiose manifestation took place a year later, in the same city on May 1, 1887.

Thus began the journey of this important day and date, embraced by millions of workers, organized through the Trade Union Movement and parties, which focus on the socio-economic position of workers.

The world trade union designated May 1 as a day on which all workers exert pressure to secure and advance their rights.

In Europe, May Day began its manifestation with the First Geneva International.

In 1890 in Paris, the founding Congress of the Second International decided that May 1st would remain International Workers' Day.

In 1891, the Third Congress of the International in Brussels decided that: May 1st will be celebrated forever and in all countries as a Workers' Day, on which workers will identify, advance and protect by Constitution and laws; freedoms, rights, working conditions, guaranteed average salary, daily, weekly, annual rest and other holidays as needed.
