The High Inspectorate of Justice, the High Judicial Council, the High Prosecutorial Council, and the High Inspectorate for Declaration and Control of Assets and Conflict of Interest are reporting today on their annual activity for 2024 to the Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration.
Initially, the head of the ILD, Artur Metani, was called to report. Metani thanked the Assembly for the solemn act of holding a minute of silence in honor of Judge Astrit Kalaja.
Metani has leveled accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has often attacked judges and prosecutors. The head of ILD said that it is very difficult to find boundaries for expressing dissatisfaction with both the system and strong statements against the work of judges and prosecutors.
"What happened was shocking for everyone. I would like to thank the Assembly for the solemn act of honoring the judge with a minute of silence. Human and institutional solidarity is ethical in facing such situations. Finding the right boundaries to separate, on the one hand, the problems of the system, the well-founded and unfounded dissatisfaction with the work of judges and prosecutors, and on the other hand, extreme reactions with a very heavy price is very difficult," said Metani.
