Lawyer Edmond Petraj has commented on the latest developments, from the issue of the arrest of the head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, and the stage of the criminal file, including the security measure.
The lawyer gave details of the hours that the former president is spending in the detention cell and his aggressive and strange behavior, such as cursing, screaming, but also attacks on the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani.
Petraj emphasized that Meta must have been sedated, or he has this behavior as a well-thought-out strategy to use later legally.
The lawyer called the attacks on Duman a strategy, because if the SPAK prosecutor reports on these threats, he is automatically excluded from the file in the investigation and trial, because the Criminal Code does not allow conflict of interest.
The lawyer also gave a final piece of information about why SPAK rushed to arrest Meta. He pointed out that " there have been suspicious transfers of money in the direction of some states", such as for the issue of lobbying and others, which made the "arrest to be made urgently ".
He emphasized that the "Ceausescu couple", as Meta-Kryemadhi called them, "that's what they got from the criminal side" and that both risked the same sentence margin, "no less than 18 years in prison and up to 30 years of isolation".
He even predicted the end of the Freedom Party if the charge of lobbying is proven in Court, because the party is outlawed.
" He was yelling, screaming, saying look what I'm going to do. He did not accept communication and contacts. An unusual situation. Even the needles, it is thought, have made them sedated, normal. But this is part of the situations that are being talked about until these moments. His behavior has left much to be desired lately. Maybe it is also a strategy. Maybe it plays with the issue of mental health and that the cycle of the issue is closed quickly. We will have some surprises on the way, the situation remains to be seen.
He does not accept anyone to contact, swears and screams. There is an extraordinary kind of strategy. It started with Mr. Dumani. And there is logic in the part of Mr. Dumani's anathema. He is the prosecutor who registered the proceedings, after the non-starting of some cases of the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana and then of Serious Crimes. But he got lucky and registered it normally.
And the other part that curses and insults him and others is a legal cause, since Dumani has dealt with the file himself and knows him well. If Duman reports and denounces Meta, he is removed from the process, because the Code provides for it, does not allow conflict of interest. If a person opens criminal proceedings, in this case Dumani, he leaves the process. It is automatically removed.
But the most problematic part of the decision is the money transfers with the American lobbying company. The second part is the part of non-declaration of personal data in the part of declaration of assets, which are at the Inspectorate. So we have concealment of income and suspicious money transfers and transactions. They are serious and will burden Mr. Meta's position.
Mr. Meta will have a long ordeal with justice. It will be a difficult case. It is believed that these days there are suspicious money transfers in some countries, so this issue of arrest was made in emergency conditions, as SPAK thought that the evidence was being destroyed.
It was CEZ-DIA and the non-declaration of income and the final one of lobbying, made the acceleration as well as that of the transfers that influenced the arrest. Referring to Mr. Meta's crimes, he risks no less than 18-20 years and I think he will not receive a summary judgment. There are charges ranging from 3-12 years in prison for each of the offenses.
