Greek MEP from the protest: There is no EU for Albania if Rama does not listen

Support from MEPs for the anti-government protest in Tirana continued on the 30th day of the civic mobilization, where this time Greek MEP Vula Tsetsi took the floor.

From the podium in front of the Prime Minister's Office, she declared that the Albanian protest has crossed the country's borders and is now being closely followed by European institutions, while calling for increased pressure on Edi Rama's government.

In her speech, Tsetsi praised the protesters' resilience, emphasizing that their cause is not only related to the protection of nature, but also to the dignity, rights, and European future of Albania.

"Today you have 30 days of protest and what is happening with you is not only recognized in the EU, but also beyond, and congratulations! Everything you ask for is thanks to you, because you are not only protecting your nature. Albania is not for sale! You are protecting your rights, your dignity, your state, EU enlargement," said Tsetsi.

The Greek MEP stated that the European integration process cannot move forward if, according to her, the government does not listen to citizens and continues to pursue policies that conflict with the public interest.

"There is no EU enlargement with Albania if Rama sells the country to foreigners and does not listen to your voice. 90% of you believe in the EU project and we want to honor this. We want the European Commission to put pressure on Rama to give up!", she stressed.

At the end of the speech, Tsetsi also addressed her political family in Europe, calling for a stronger reaction to the developments in Albania and calling on the protesters not to retreat.

"We also need to appeal to our social democrat friends because Rama is with the social democrats. Our friends there need to wake up and protect you. So don't give up, every day is a day of victory! Not only for democracy, but for you and for us, because Albania must be in the EU," the MEP concluded.
