The Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, hosted his French counterpart Sébastien Lecornu on an official visit to Tirana, where a technical agreement was signed for the modernization of the Albanian Armed Forces. The meeting took place at the 'Skënderbej' garrison, a symbol of the country's military history, but which now aims to become an example of a technological renaissance.
The new agreement focuses particularly on air force modernization - a step that comes at a time when NATO countries are reviewing their military capabilities against the backdrop of new threats in Europe and beyond.
"We signed an agreement to modernize our air forces, a clear indicator of our progress," Vengu declared, emphasizing that cooperation with France is more than a technical issue - it is a strategic orientation towards consolidating Albania's role in NATO and the region.
French Minister Lecornu, for his part, expressed France's willingness to be a strong ally in this process, emphasizing support for building a modern army capable of facing the challenges of the time, including hybrid threats and changes in European defense doctrine.
This cooperation comes at a time when European countries are reinvesting in security, increasing defense budgets and developing domestic military industries. Albania, located in a strategic position in the Balkans, is seeking to remain not just a small member state, but a functional actor in NATO's security architecture.
