Ilir Meta's lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, has requested the presence of the media and a live broadcast of the court session. Monika Kryemadhi has also joined this request.
"I agree that the hearing should be held live. This intimidation and lynching that was done to me and my ex-husband should be open for Albanians to see the evidence. In America, even the murderer sits outside the cage. We and the prosecution are also parties. I should be presumed innocent. I need the environmental and telephone wiretaps that the prosecution has done. Complete," said Monika Kryemadhi.
Former President Ilir Meta is present today at the second trial session on the merits of the case against him, his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi and other people.
Previously, the Special Court left former President Ilir Meta in prison, rejecting his request for a substitute measure.
Earlier, prosecutor Sotir Kllapi rejected the claim of Meta's lawyer that the Supreme Court's unifying decision on the security measure legitimized the release of the Freedom Party leader.
The prosecutor noted that the social danger is evident and there are no circumstances to mitigate the security measure. The trial session on the merits against Meta and the other defendants in the case is also expected to be held today.
The former president asked the Special Court to replace the "prison arrest" measure, in which he has been serving since October 2024, with that of "financial guarantee", "obligation to appear", or "ban on leaving the country".
On May 4, the Special Court of Appeals rejected the next request for freedom of the former President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, while previously, all of his requests for mitigation of the measure, at all three levels of trial, were rejected.
