Today at 12:00, a hearing will be held in the Special Court against the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, who is accused of corruption in the elections.
In this session, 12 witnesses will be heard who will prove the accusation of the prosecution, as they are the very witnesses who will tell the court how they got the money from Beleri and Kokaveshi.
This is the third session that takes place in the Special Court against Fredi Beleri and Pandeli Kokaveshi, both arrested in relation to election corruption, since according to the Special Prosecutor's Office, Beleri and Kokaveshi, two days before the May 14 elections, were detained with reasoning that they gave money in exchange for votes.
In the session of October 12, Beler's representatives requested the dismissal of judge Deda, who also submitted her resignation with the argument that she had previously expressed a decision on a defendant's request.
Fredi Beleri was arrested two days before the May 14 local elections, becoming the only candidate in Albania to be elected to public office while in prison.
The prosecution accuses Beler of "active corruption in the elections", claiming that it has proven beyond any doubt that he had offered a police associate 50 euros for every vote he could find in his favor as mayor of Himara. His accomplice, Pandeli Kokaveshi, is accused of the same criminal act.
