Poisoning of 70 children, 3 foods to be analyzed; parents on alert, what

Inspectors from the National Food Authority have today taken samples to analyze three food products, which are suspected of causing the intoxication of 70 children in a public kindergarten in the city of Gramsh.

News24 journalist Osman Stafa reports from the city of Gramsh that parents say the children's symptoms started last Friday, but only today did the AKU take samples of chicken, milk and eggs.

One of the parents says that there were 2 daughters in the kindergarten and the management structures notified them to take the children after a case of Salmonella was identified.

"We have requested that the food tender not be awarded from Tirana, so that the food is fresh. We don't know if we should trust that this case won't happen again," says the father of two girls.

According to him, on Monday, the parents announced a protest against the authorities responsible for the serious incident.

The first suspicions of doctors and parents are that this was caused by salmonella, a very dangerous bacteria that is usually spread through contaminated food or poor hygiene.

For its part, the AKU announced last night regarding media reports on a situation that occurred in Kindergarten No. 1 in the city of Gramsh, that it was initially the Gramsh Local Health Care Unit (LHU) that notified the National Food Authority (AKU) and the Institute of Public Health (IPH) about this case.

"These institutions are collaborating with local structures to guarantee a full and careful assessment of the situation, until the clarification and conclusion of each result," the NFA statement said.
