For seismologists, the 6.8 Richter scale earthquake felt in Morocco is a consequence of the movement of tectonic plates and increased seismic activity in the Mediterranean region.
Albanian seismologist Edmond Dushi says that Morocco is one of the most seismic countries in this region.
It happened at the border of the powerful tectonic plates of the Mediterranean region, African and Eurasian plates. If we refer to the map, it is highlighted in color, where it is indicated for a high seismic activity ,'' he said.
In the seismic history of Morocco there are several powerful earthquakes. According to the seismologist, after the 7.7 Richter scale earthquake that occurred in Turkey this year, the tectonic plate system in the Mediterranean is undergoing movement.
" We have an increase in activities in the Mediterranean, especially after that of Turia, an indication that the entire region or plate system has been in motion for a long time ," he said. As a result, we may have increased seismic activity throughout the Mediterranean region.
