Former director of ARRSH, Dashamir Gjika goes to SPAK

The former head of the Albanian Road Authority, Dashamir Xhika, went to SPAK today.

The reason for his visit to the premises of the Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime is still unknown.

We recall that in February 2018, Dashamir Xhika, then head of the road authority, was arrested for corruption. Together with him, his two subordinates, Albens Alite and Aksel Qorduka, ended up in the cell. The charge brought against him was the abuse of funds for the construction of the Tirana-Elbasan road.

The road started with a cost of 222 million dollars, but by the time it was finished, it cost the Albanians about 330 million dollars.

The audit of the Ministry of Infrastructure led by Damian Gjiknuri, calculated that the damage caused was 36 million dollars.

After the audit, Gjiknuri sued Dashamir Xhika and his subordinates claiming that the road costs were increased to favor the Aktor company that was building the road. From this action they would benefit money for themselves.

After the investigations, the prosecutors of the prosecution of serious crimes found no evidence to prove the corruption. As a result, in October 2018, they passed the file to the Tirana prosecutor's office to investigate for abuse of office.

The big corruption file of the Tirana-Elbasan road was closed and the officials were released from prison.

In July 2021, they were also cleared of the charge of abuse of office after the prosecution of Tirana requested the dismissal of the case.

Dashamir Xhika was a candidate for LSI deputy in the district of Elbasan in the 2017 elections.
