In Tirana, the Special Court today detained the former deputy minister of health, Klodian Rrjepaj, and the businessman of hospital sterilizations, Ilir Rrapaj, as suspected by SPAK of forgery, fraud and abuse of office.
The government and the opposition reacted in different ways to this operation of the new institutions of justice, during which a series of arrests were made for officials of the Ministry of Health.
One day after the arrest of the former Deputy Minister of Health Klodian Rrjepaj and sterilization businessman Ilir Rrapaj, on charges of abuse of office, falsification of documents and fraud with serious consequences, political circles reacted in different ways, but in support of in-depth investigations by the Prosecutor's Office special.
While the two arrested by SPAK were kept by the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime under prison arrest, two officials under house arrest and four others under mandatory appearance, Prime Minister Edi Rama thanked these two institutions, as proof of independent justice rebuilt by the socialist majority.
Leaving aside the fact that Mr. Rrjepaj was number two in the Ministry of Health, where he was led by Ilir Beqaj, one of his closest collaborators, Mr. Rama emphasized in a long status on Twitter that SPAK and the National Bureau of Investigation are expressions of the sincere and unwavering state-building will of the Socialist Party.
Mr. Rama emphasized that this government has given up control of justice and is supporting it unconditionally against corruption and organized crime, European Albania.
He added that the socialist government resolutely paved the way for new justice and will never obstruct justice in its own way, within the government or under its umbrella.
The opposition, for its part, accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of being responsible for this corrupt affair, which endangers the health of citizens and proves the greed and deep corruption of his government.
The spokeswoman of the Democratic Party, Mirela Karabina, stated that corruption, abuse of office and misuse of public funds has become a phenomenon of the Rama government, as the chain of involvement is in all cells of government and the state.
"The Democratic Party welcomes SPAK and GJKKO institutions for this national action of bringing to justice politicians and high officials and their clients as violators of the law, but also encourages these institutions to go to the end of the investigation, to the source of this corrupt and destructive scheme for the public interest, to Edi Rama - Prime Minister, Ilir Beqja former Minister of Health and Ogerta Manastirliu - Minister of Health", said Mrs. Karabina.
Former Deputy Minister of Health, Klodian Rrjepaj, and sterilization businessman Ilir Rrapaj were arrested on Thursday under charges of abuse of office and falsification of documents in cooperation with the sterilization concession of nearly 100 million dollars from 8 years ago, which from December 2015 and until today raised suspicions of corruption, violation of equality in competition and non-fulfillment of legal criteria.
Six other officials were placed on the same charges under house arrest and forced to appear, as suspects of collaboration in this case.
The Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime has directed the SPAK to expand the investigations also against the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, the former Minister of Finance, Shkëlqim Cani, as well as 4 other officials, who have had connections, suspicions about legal violation and knowledge of this concession./VOA
