The High State Control was the first to warn of the Oncology scandal. In the summer of 2023, an audit was conducted and endless violations were discovered, but the government did not take into account the recommendations.
Arben Shehu, the head of KLSH, has shown that from the audits that are being closed in the public health system, the situation is not good at all, not only in Oncology.
" We are in the conditions where we have ascertained a number of problems during the audit because I want to emphasize here that they have been carried out and are being carried out, part of which is the Oncology hospital and at the same time I want to tell you with full responsibility that we are in a kind of treatment in-depth, processes which are unfinished, at the same time we are in in-depth legal treatment in those cases which have been completed and I must inform you that the completion of the problems in the Oncology hospital, regardless of its importance, is only a part of the segment of the real situation ", said Shehu for TCH.
But Arben Shehu says that this file with concrete findings should be investigated by SPAK and not by the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana. One of the reports of the High State Control turns out to have been submitted to SPAK.

Monitoring and evaluation reports at the end of the National Cancer Control Program in Albania 2011-2020; b. Monitoring reports, assessment of cancer progress for the years 2021-2022; c. The National Cancer Registry does not have real-time data of new cases on the progress of tumor diseases as well as mortality caused by cancer. Findings from the audit: The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has not changed and approved: a. Regulation for determining health criteria and norms for palliative patients at the institutions for the execution of criminal decisions; The clinical protocols are from 2014, although the list of essential drugs used in palliative care has been enriched ", emphasizes KLSH.
KLSH also discovered the scandal with the equipment. During the audit period, it turned out that Bankiterapia, the equipment that performs chemotherapy, was broken, preventing 200 patients a year from receiving the service. Meanwhile, it turns out that 600 women were not treated for their tumor during the period that this device was broken.
" The oncologists of the radiotherapy unit refer to the fact that not all patients are treated with Bronchitherapy, but in most cases nearly 200 patients a year must be treated through this equipment with radiotherapy. Treatment with Brachytherapy (Kyritherapy) has not been functional, for the period under audit, due to the lack of the radioactive source Iridium (192). This device has not yet become functional, for the service and for the treatment of patients with gynecological Ca with radiotherapy. The lack of Bronchitherapy, for the audit period, has resulted in the non-treatment of 200 patients per year or 600 women patients have not received this service with radiotherapy, constituting a risk factor for their health ", the HCSH emphasizes in the report.
