"Political trap", Fredi Beleri follows the news: The witness cheated,

The elected Mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, gave an interview to the Greek media, as he stated that he is not allowed to take the oath as mayor for political traps.

"The issue is apparently a political trap set up by one person", Fredi Beleri declared yesterday in a phone call from prison to the Greek television channel Open TV.

"The assertion of the witness as well as of the police director that the witness was paid for the testimony, in any democratic country, would also close the court case. The most disturbing fact of the listening session is precisely that it was discovered that the prosecution had no knowledge of the payment that the police had given", said the elected mayor of Himara.

In the following, Beleri also referred to the act of accepting the testimony of the main witness behind closed doors, emphasizing that "this act of the prosecution constitutes another legal violation, which is not foreseen in judicial procedures.

"They did him this honor. The witness lied by claiming that his life was threatened. The prosecution did him a favor not to submit to public pressure, by allowing him to testify behind closed doors," he said.

Fredi Beleri has also commented on the delay in granting permission from the Supreme Court to allow him to be sworn in as the Mayor of Himara, saying that "this form of treatment proves that everything happens here other than independent justice. The fact that they don't give me a permit and keep me in custody is for the purpose of not taking the office of mayor from my side".

Finally, Beleri called on the people of Himara to fight this battle together and to be patient because the right always triumphs.
