The Constitutional Court has agreed to review Ilir Meta's request for his security measure on the merits. But Ilir Meta will not enjoy the privileges of the returned mayor of Tirana.
The hearing will not be broadcast live, he will not be able to speak or be present. His lawyers will not be allowed to speak either, but will only submit documents in a closed courtroom.
In an interview on the show "Last Minute" on ABC News, lawyer Romeo Kara said that Ilir Meta threatens witnesses and evidence.
He stressed that it is alarming to threaten the prosecution or the court.
"I believe that legality and proportionality will be seen. There is room to verify whether this measure stands, or whether we have always had the need to destroy evidence, or threaten witnesses. Looking at all levels whether this measure is justified. I believe that in the end the court will express itself and I believe it can be used, since the party itself has expressed it can be used for Strasbourg. I am convinced that it also threatens the entire prosecution. Him and Berisha. It is alarming that the prosecution or the court is threatened. This is evident and known. There may be other arguments as well," he said, adding: "If it were just a journey, the constitutional court would reject it for the moment, saying that the Supreme Court should express itself and then we should express ourselves," he said .
Lawyer Romeo Kara also spoke about the January 21 incident, saying that fire was opened as the protest was closing.
He stressed that if this is found to be the case, it is very serious, and added that it is important that this incident be solved as soon as possible. During the interview, he was harsh towards the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, calling him a 'bloodthirsty'.
"The way the Guard's fire team was not allowed to be arrested shows that he also received guarantees. For me, it was a shameful trial. We have a former prosecutor who says evidence was destroyed. This event is a red line that cannot be crossed. And it must be clarified. That blood line must not be crossed. We must not forget what happened in '97, what happened, thousands of people were killed as a result of Law 7051, I say with awareness that this person is a bloodthirsty person and it is frightening that such a bloodthirsty person continues to be in Albanian politics," the lawyer said, among other things.
