Despite the pressures and appeals of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Constitutional Court has rejected the request to remove the sequestration of the Saranda naval base.
After the investigations that started against the former minister Olta Xhaçka, SPAK seized the naval base, as there are suspicions that there was a violation of the law. The company that privatized the facility appealed to the Constitutional Court, but the latter rejected it.
This decision ensures that the Limion Naval Base will remain under seizure until the investigation by SPAK is completed.
The seizure of the base was made in February 2023, after the decision of the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO), at the request of SPAK, arguing that its privatization had endangered the operationality of the naval forces.
The company contested the decision first in the Court of Special Appeals and then in the Supreme Court, but both of these instances upheld the seizure on a maritime basis.
