A recently released video shows the moment a multi-story building collapses in Caracas, Venezuela, as residents run for their lives during two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitudes that struck the country on Wednesday afternoon, June 24.

According to the latest announcement from Venezuelan authorities, over 1,700 people have been killed, while at least 5,034 have been injured. Authorities warn that the death toll is expected to rise, as more than 40,000 people are reported missing.

Nearly five days after the devastating earthquakes, rescue teams and volunteers continue to search for survivors in the ruins of La Guaira, the area that was near the epicenter of the seismic tremors.

Humanitarian organizations emphasize that the first 72 hours after a natural disaster are crucial for saving lives. However, the chances of survival can last even longer if stranded people have access to water and food.

The international community has been engaged in relief operations. So far, Venezuela has received aid from 24 countries, including supplies, rescue teams and specially trained dogs for searching under the rubble.
