The Mayor of Libohova, Leonard Hida, appeared before the SPAK this Monday morning. This is not the first time that the mayor has gone to the Special Prosecutor's Office.
Leonard Hide was indicted by the Special Prosecution Office in March 2024 for abuse of office because, according to investigations, in 2021, when Hida was the head of Crimes at the Gjirokastra police station, they did not pursue investigations into cases of cannabis cultivation in the Panjë and Zhulat areas of Kolonjë.
"Based on the data available from the services and the recent events that occurred in the administrative units 'Cepo' and 'Picar', there are reasonable suspicions that in addition to the persons involved in this activity, police officers who had the legal obligation to detect criminal activity were also implicated, but they allowed this activity in exchange for rewards and through their actions and inactions," the investigative file states.
Hide was being investigated by the Gjirokastra prosecutor's office, but after taking office as mayor, on May 14, 2023, prosecutor Gazmend Frëngu signed the incompetence and transferred the file to SPAK.
Hide took the mandate of mayor of Libohova in the elections of May 14, 2023 under the banner of the Socialist Party. He won with 52.64% of the vote, against the candidate of 'Together We Win' Adil Xhelili, who received 47.36%.
