Renowned analyst Fatos Lubonja has commented on the political situation and the protests, as today marks the 41st consecutive day of mass rallies against Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government cabinet.
Lubonja stated that the civic revolt stems from mismanagement and arbitrary decision-making by the government, focusing specifically on the allocation of a fund of 4 million euros for the organization of a concert. According to him, this act constitutes a violation of the Constitution and proves that the country is being run by an autocratic government.
"Citizens are protesting against arrogance and extortion. We are not for the installation of a revolutionary dictatorship, we are not for the use of violence. We are in a situation where we demand free elections. But this also has the other side of the coin, because Marx says about revolutions that the weapon of criticism cannot replace criticism with weapons. Rama has violated the Constitution by giving 4 million euros for a concert, he has learned nothing from this protest," Lubonja declared.
The analyst further issued harsh criticism of the majority MPs and ministers, questioning their integrity and the functioning of the rule of law in Albania.
"What kind of MPs are they, what kind of ministers are they? Why, will we go by law or by codes of honor and shame that they invent? Albania is ashamed of this act because it shows that it is not a democracy where the people decide, but rather an autocrat who gives 4 million euros to a private company decides. This must be stopped by parliament, the opposition and the judiciary," Lubonja concluded on News24.
