US President Donald Trump has said he has agreed to resume talks with Iran after Tehran requested a resumption of the negotiation process. However, he stressed that the ceasefire between the two countries is no longer in effect.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump wrote that Iran requested continued dialogue, but the United States has made it clear that the ceasefire has ended.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran asked us to continue the talks. We agreed, but the United States told them, very clearly, that the ceasefire is over!" declared the American president.
Meanwhile, CNN reported, citing two Israeli sources, that the US administration does not want Israel involved in new air strikes against Iran, for fear that the conflict could spiral out of control.
According to the report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would like Israel to participate in military operations alongside the US, but Washington is determined to avoid further escalation.
Sources emphasize that Trump does not intend a return to a full-scale war with Iran and, in the most likely scenario, the US administration may consider reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports as a means of pressure.
