The fight against corruption and the punishment of high officials, Robinson:

Assistant Secretary of State for Narcotics and Law Enforcement Todd D. Robinson said he sees an improvement in the fight against corruption in Albania from SPAK.

In an exclusive interview for Top Channel, given to journalist Anila Hoxha, Robinson said that the US wants to see more progress, although he adds that they know that expertise and capacity building are not easy.

He also emphasized that their work is difficult and that is why, he added, various United States agencies have been installed here to help them.

Excerpt from the interview:

Anila Hoxha : Where is Albania in your assessment regarding law enforcement, drug-trafficking, money laundering and anti-corruption?

Todd D. Robinson : I think they've shown that they have the capacity to do these investigations and go after these networks. We are seeing it in Albania. I have seen it in my travels in Latin America. We understand that expertise and capacity building are not easy. It's not something quick. And it won't be something perfect. But we see progress happening. We want to see more. And that's why we're helping.

Anila Hoxha : The United States of America has always emphasized support for legal, financial and moral reform. Can this reform be called successful so far?

Todd D. Robinson : It is successful but there is always more work to do. And we're here to help that work continue. Justice reform has many different levels – from ensuring that ordinary citizens have access to justice, to ensuring that their interaction with the justice system is transparent and a positive relationship for them, to ensuring that those entering the justice system, when convicted of a crime and put into the prison system, to be treated humanely. All these are important, I repeat, for ordinary Albanians, who should expect to be treated exactly like that when they enter that system. And that's why we're here to help, that's why the various agencies of the United States are here to help.
