Analyst Andi Bushati says that the Supreme Court's decision to keep Erion Veliaj in prison was expected as it is "a political decision."
Invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, Bushati said that the court received clear signals that Veliaj is "a political corpse that should be made an example of" and that he had been abandoned by his party.
" It was undoubtedly expected as a political decision. We should have no illusions that it was a decision of an independent judiciary. In addition to the decisions of the three levels to leave Veliaj in prison, we should see the larger picture, that Veliaj, like Arben Ahmetaj, before the judges put him in prison, was sold out by his party. The Supreme Court turned a blind eye that Veliaj is a political corpse that needs to be thrown to the crowds to satisfy their appetite. The decision is preceded by politics. Both SPAK and the judiciary turn a blind eye, take Veliaj's corpse and make an example of him.
The second, it was also expected from a legal perspective. If you look at the members of the trial panel, there are members who, both in the case of Ilir Meta and in the case of Lefter Koka, have obeyed the wishes of SPAK, to leave them in prison ," Bushati said.
Regarding possible elections in the Municipality of Tirana during the fall, Bushati said that this is entirely at Rama's will and his interests.
" This depends on Rama. He gave a signal that he doesn't know how this (Veliaj's) job is going. Rama no longer calls Veliaj mayor, he has taken away his ability to control the Municipality, he has torn up his decrees and released him from prison."
We were discussing as if this were a legal debate, as if SPAK and the courts decide based on the facts. This is a political process and Veliaj is in prison because of Rama and with Rama's will. Otherwise, there is no way to explain why Rama kept quiet the first week he opposed SPAK? He doesn't feel like a man anymore. Why did he order the deputies not to defend Veliaj? Rama has made a decision that the party needs Veliaj in prison.
Are elections advantageous for Rama now? This too does not depend on legal factors, but on political calculations. Does Rama want elections now, or will he postpone them?
At this point they might be interested, because it closes the chapter of May 11 and shows the opposition the red cloth, come to the arena and beat them again. It also closes the chapter of contesting the general elections. But these are Rama's personal accounts, he decides who stays in prison and whether there are early elections or not. It is a decision that is in Rama's head , "said Bushati.
