Albanian Mira Murati has decided to leave the Artificial Intelligence firm, OpenAI. She has been part of the company that created ChatGPT for six and a half years.
"After much reflection, I have made the difficult decision to leave OpenAI," she wrote in an open letter to the company, which she also published on X , adding: "There is never an ideal time to away from a place one loves, however, this moment feels right.”
Murat also wrote that she is “leaving because she wants to create the time and space to do her own exploration.
"At the moment, my main focus is to do everything in my power to ensure a smooth transition, while maintaining the momentum we have built," said Murati.
Murati is the latest high-level executive to leave the startup. OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever and former security chief Jan Leike announced their departures in May. Co-founder John Schulman said last month he was leaving to join rival Anthropic.
