Fiks Fare denounced on Tuesday evening the attempts of several institutions to "blame" rodents for the burning of the Palace of Culture in Peshkopi, an event that occurred on February 27, 2026, while the entire building did not have any fire-fighting system or, worse yet, even fire extinguishers were missing.
In this entire situation, where if there were a performance, a tragedy would be at risk, the leaders of the Palace of Culture, the Fire Department, or even the Electricity Distribution Operator, have so far found the culprit, "the rat that ate the cable", as the main cause!
Are they themselves responsible? The Directorate of the Palace of Culture that did not see the exposed electrical cables? What about the Fire Department that did not check the Palace of Culture once to see if it had a fire protection system or not? What about the Municipality of Dibra itself, which after making a piece of the roof, has dragged on and on about the interventions? Does a tragedy have to happen for these institutions to act?! More than "it's the mouse's fault", these statesmen must be held accountable for this event, since they themselves are the main ones responsible for this incident. Fortunately, at the moment when the fire broke out, there was no performance, as it would have endangered the lives of hundreds of spectators and dozens of artists.
The Fiks Fare camera filmed the condition of the Palace of Culture, where it turns out that the building has old electrical installations, underground cables, in the walls and a lack of fire extinguishers. From the observation it turns out that the fire had started near the stage, in an area used by the artists in front of the stage. The spark had fallen on the internal power distribution package, on some cables that sent energy to the packages and sockets.
Meanwhile, near the place, there was also a hydrant, but it was not working. The fire had spread throughout the room, while smoke was throughout the building. The entire building was covered in black ash, caused by the smoke that invaded the entire building. Even, at the moment of the collapse, the fire endangered an employee who was on the second floor, who was rescued by firefighters.
The Fiks Fare group also spoke with Igli Tomchinin, the director of the Palace of Culture, who says that they immediately notified the fire department and the police. OSHEE employees also went to the scene and found sparks. Journalists asked him when the last investments were made, and the director said that it was 11 years ago. During the 3 years that he had been in office, no intervention had been made in the energy system, but only in the roof of the building. Fiksi asked him if the palace has a fire protection system, and he replied that it does not. Fiksi also asked him about the hydrant, and the director replied that it "does not work". He admitted that the three-story building, even the hall of the palace, does not have a single fire extinguisher!
After this alarming situation, which almost caused a tragedy, the Fiks Fare group also contacted OSHEE Dibër, where the person in charge, Abdi Hoxha, says that it was not their fault, as they cover everything from the pole to the transformer. Abdiu accompanied the Fiks Fare group to the place where the fire broke out and says that it broke out as a result of a spark, but he cannot specify.
"It could have been a rodent, they like cables," he said. He further added that "the Palace of Culture has not made any request for additional power, as it has its own transformer. And, as far as the transformer and meter are concerned, there was no problem."
Fiksi also inquired at the Dibër Fire Station, where the head of the intervention sector, Latif Alku, said that the spark came from the internal box. Alku also claimed that it could have been a rodent. Journalists asked him if the building and the Palace of Culture had a fire-fighting system and fire extinguishers. He replied that "there is no system, but there were fire extinguishers." Fiksi tells him that the director of the Palace of Culture himself said in an interview that there were no fire extinguishers, while Alku continues with his own that they took them for approval. But, he does not know why they were not used and why the director told us that there were no fire extinguishers!
It tells us that they intervened and rescued an employee who was inside from the smoke. What if there was a show?! A tragedy must happen in this country of ours for them to take action. The responsibility in this case lies with all the institutions that, through actions or inactions, caused an important institution to burn down.
