Bad weather in Kukës, residents of Shtreza remain stranded: A bridge must
Residents of the "Gjuta" neighborhood

For days, Kukes has been under the influence of heavy rain and snow, which are creating serious difficulties for residents of mountainous areas.

In the Gjuta neighborhood, in the village of Shtrezë of the Shishtavec Administrative Unit, about 10 students are not attending classes, because to go to the schools in the villages of Shishtavec and Novosej they have to walk about 30 minutes on a mountain village road.

The situation is made even more problematic by the wooden bridge, built by the residents themselves about a year ago. The bridge is dilapidated and dangerous to cross, especially now that the snowfall has started, making movement almost impossible for the students.

"My name is Rilind Gjuta, I am from the Gjuta neighborhood, Shtrezë village. Every day I go to school in Shishtavec. It is very difficult to cross here. Since the bridge we used to cross broke down, we have built a temporary wooden bridge. When it rains, there is a lot of water, we cannot go to school because our lives are at risk. We want a bridge so we can go to school. We are 5-10 students, there are also small children ," he told "Report TV".

Meanwhile, residents of the Gjuta neighborhood say that the wooden bridge and the approximately 1 kilometer long road serve approximately 15 families. According to them, they have been in this situation for more than a year and whenever there is heavy rain or snowfall, the area remains isolated, making it impossible to connect to Kukës and Shishtavec.

They are demanding urgent intervention from the responsible institutions for the construction of a new bridge, which would guarantee safety and normal access for residents and children attending school.

"We are the Gjuta neighborhood, we are 15 families, about 70 members. This road has served us for family needs. This road has been like this for a year and a half, we have built it with our own strength. We have also notified the Municipal Council. They said they will do it. Before the campaign, they brought 5 turbines. They cannot withstand heavy rains, we need a bridge. We have repaired the bridge with wood, but it is not safe", said the resident.

The Gjuta neighborhood, in the village of Shtrezë of the Shishtavec Administrative Unit, is located in a deep mountainous area and faces similar problems every year during the rainy season.
