Flooding in Durrës has also included the first floor of the detention center in the coastal city.
All detainees who had cells on the first floor have been moved to the second.
Meanwhile, the road has been blocked with tape by the police as it is impossible to enter the former Swamp area due to the amount of water.
Firefighters have intervened there to remove the water after its level rose as a result of bad weather.
To closely monitor the situation, the Director General of Prisons, Klevis Qose, has arrived at the scene, along with senior representatives from the Ministry of Justice.
It is expected that in the coming hours there will be an official reaction from the Ministry of Justice and the General Directorate of Prisons to clarify the situation of the convicts and the measures taken for the security of the institution.
