The Prosecutor General, Olsian Çela, has today approved the circular "On the investigation of issues related to the safety of journalists and the media".
It has been sent to all district prosecutors' offices and they are asked to quickly investigate any case of violence against journalists. " Assessing that the freedom of the media is essential for the normal functioning of a democratic society and that the safety of journalists and the media against any form of illegal action that constitutes a criminal offense is a guarantee for the exercise of the constitutional and conventional right to freedom of expression, the Prosecutor's Office The General is committed to addressing the issues of attacks on journalists and the media as an institutional priority.
This circular aims to coordinate activities as well as strengthen institutional capacities in terms of protecting journalists from any act of threat, violence or any illegal action aimed at hindering them in the exercise of their profession.
Based on it, the heads of prosecutions and prosecutors should prioritize issues related to the safety of journalists and the media and continuously supervise the work of judicial police officers who investigate these cases, to ensure the speed and quality of investigations . , says the circular.
