3 days ago, the Court of Appeal rejected the request for the extradition to The Hague of former KLA fighter Dritan Goxhaj, who was arrested on July 31 in Tirana. After leaving prison cells 313 on Tuesday morning, Goxhaj insisted on his innocence and said that he has not lost his freedom for a moment. In an interview for "Report TV" he criticized the way he was arrested by the Albanian police.
"You won the battle, not me. The media did it. I fought the legal battle and you did the media battle. What I did not expect was the reaction of the Albanian state in that way, the handling of an administrative part, the arrest in that way, house inspections in the eyes of family members, these were the things that I had not thought would happen. As if I had killed someone, now the police come with masks. I do not understand? It was an extradition request. This reaction was illogical", said Goxhaj.
After his release from prison, he said that he only received phone calls from his friends.
Goxhaj was accused by the Special Court of revealing the names of witnesses in several cases previously opened by the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo and of obstructing the work of officials and intimidating witnesses. According to him, the Special Court has raised absurd and baseless charges against KLA.
"Let's say the court is a Kosovo court located in The Hague with international court prosecutors. It is a legitimate court. Its activity is not legal, it has turned the court into a political one.
It is acting illegally. I have said that he is making accusations based on no facts with false witnesses. What is her interest? First everything starts from personal interest, they are paid a lot and why not extend it. The prosecutor for war crimes in Serbia has stated that 63,000 fates on what happened during the war have been submitted to this court. The war ended in 199 in June, the KLA disbanded in September. How can you accuse KLA members of crimes that happened after September. You can accuse as individuals but not in the name of an army. You cannot accuse me in the name of an organization that no longer exists" , he said.
He underlined that the KLA did not commit any crime against Serbian civilians, as claimed.
"I have not heard that there were crimes against Serbian civilians. KLA has implemented the norms. The Serbs have presented a list of 160 killed Serbs. They are Serbs who participated in the Serbian paramilitary forces. A woman said that my husband and son were armed. Who armed them? Serbian state. They have been killed, they are considered civilians. It is not about civilians, but about paramilitaries. Serbia leveled cult objects in Kosovo. KLA did not commit crimes against Serbian civilians. He did not enter any village with civilians. We entered, but we did not arrest or rape. Those who claim that they are killed civilians are paramilitaries", continued Goxhaj.
Referring to the recent events in the North of Kosovo, he said that Serbia arms the Serbs like in the 90s.
"The truth must be told in order for history to be known. To tell the truth as it is. I will not stop for a single day to speak about the truth", said Dritan Goxhaj.
In the end, he appealed to the Albanian authorities to be unified in their attitudes towards Kosovo.
"I wanted the Albanian authorities to be unique in their approach to Kosovo. When it comes to Kosovo, let's all have one nation, one attitude. Everything can go towards an easier unification", he concluded.
