Following the US withdrawal, the EU appears to have increased its oversight and assistance to the justice system. Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos arrived in Tirana today.
In addition to meetings at the political level, she has met with leaders of justice institutions for more than 60 minutes.
The Commissioner received at the EU headquarters the head of SPAK Altin Dumani, the head of the High Council of Justice Ilir Rusi, the Chief Prosecutor Olsian Cela and the head of ILD Artur Metani.
The Commissioner was interested in hearing from them about how the implementation of the justice reform is progressing and the daily challenges facing the justice systems.
" A very good meeting with independent justice institutions, which enable a secure Albania and Europe. I commended their commitment to fighting corruption and organized crime and expressed the EU's strong support for their role and working methods, especially for SPAK. It is important to engage in building an independent and functional judicial system, but even more so to instill respect for the rule of law ," she writes.
