Security expert and former police chief, Shemsi Prençi, has made strong statements on the "Oponencë" show on News24, where he denounced the deep politicization of the State Police and warned of serious consequences due to unresolved property laws.
Prençi, who stated that he is the only police director who has resigned in opposition to the Minister of Interior to prevent the misuse of the police, made direct accusations against politics for manipulating law enforcement structures.
" The police are part of politics. I am the only police director who has resigned in protest against the Minister of Interior for not abusing the state police. No one else has done this ," said Prençi.
According to him, Albanian politics has a “daily pleasure” in using the police as an instrument for personal or party purposes, seriously violating its constitutional mission to guarantee public order and security. Prençi shared his 25 years of experience in the field, from Shkodra to Berat and Fier, where he has been constantly engaged in resolving property conflicts, an issue that he describes as “a bad dish cooked by politics.”
" I have spent most of my years dealing with property conflicts, with the nasty political concoction called Law 7501, doubled with an even worse law on property restitution and compensation. In my opinion, these will generate another 300 years of crime, " the security expert warned.
He emphasized that these laws, which have produced ongoing uncertainty on the ground, were voted on by MPs who are still part of the Albanian parliament today.
" Even today, there are MPs in parliament who voted for these laws, " said Prençi.
He then recalled how, in his role as officer and chief of the police station, he and his colleagues were forced to position hundreds of officers on the borders between villages to avoid physical clashes between residents over disputed properties, a reality that, according to him, continues today.
