Why does the Census not include agriculture?

The population and housing census, which started on September 18, will not include the agriculture and livestock sector. This is because INSTAT foresees that this will be a separate process.

Specifically, in 2024, after the Population Census, it is anticipated that the implementation of the Agricultural Census will begin, which will play a decisive role in updating the statistical information needed at the local and regional level and reflecting the changes that have occurred in this sector in more than a decade.

The census will also contribute to the creation of the farm statistical register, which will be the source of agricultural surveys in the future. Currently, INSTAT has started the preparatory phase for the realization of this exercise.

Initially, a module of questions was prepared which were included in the population and housing census questionnaire in order to create a list of agricultural farms, which will serve as a framework for the future census of agricultural economic units, due to the lack of the administrative register of farms.

INSTAT also envisages collecting separate modules on all agricultural farms dealing with irrigation, land management practices, machinery, equipment and horticulture.

This process was planned to be completed in 2022, but due to the pandemic, it was postponed to next year./ SCAN
