In an interview with 'Politico', Prime Minister Edi Rama last week stated that Albania was ready to allow the US to use its airports and airspace to attack Iran.
For security expert Ilir Kulla, this is a calculated diplomatic move by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who in return for cooperation is seeking to strengthen air security.
In "Të Pashoq", Kulla stated that this move is interpreted as an attempt to ensure that loyalty to allies does not come at the expense of the country's security, but on the contrary, strengthens it.

-You mentioned a little earlier the arrival of the US ambassador to NATO, in our country, they met with Prime Minister Rama, among others. However, a few days ago it was reported that the head of our government has accepted Trump that, if it happens, the Americans will attack Iran from Albania. But of course, he has also set his own conditions.
Ilir Kulla : No, he didn't say that the Americans would attack Iran from Albania. What are the details of this? The Kuçova base is a logistical air base created by NATO in the event of a war in the east. It was created two years ago with the idea that the war with the Black Sea, Russia, Ukraine and others is continuing. And precisely our path to the east also passes through the one that goes from Bulgaria and others and the path that goes from Turkey and after Turkey is Iran. So, if this war continues, since some of the European countries like Spain, France, Italy and others have told, have told the US that you cannot use our bases and others, our base is not an offensive base, but it is a logistical base. It is a small base, but it is an important logistical base because it is exactly on the eastern route. So, it is enough to look at the globe, the map and you see that it is a straight line. In this view, this base was created for this. And you can't say no to the Americans. It's completely illogical because the platform has been created since the moment we entered NATO - we can't say no to an ally. Only in extreme cases, if for example...

Ilir Kulla : It's out. Yes. Uh, we can't say no. Maybe someone else can say no, but we do for many reasons. We owe Kosovo, we have a history of democracy and support, we are aligned in that line, we have the problem of weakness as a state and dependence, that is, we have many problems, which we cannot solve with our biggest ally. And this is logical. Now what changes? Very important. It is not an offensive base but a logistical base. But the Prime Minister, the Albanian government, has made clear what we said in this studio, if you remember a month ago. That we do not have defensive capabilities. So, if you are going to use the base, you must give us defensive capabilities. Why? Because it's not that we don't have defensive capabilities. There are none of these. Neither does Italy, that's why Italy says no. There are no defensive capabilities. So the prime minister says, diplomatically and politically I say that you can use the base, of course you will use the base because the basis for that work has been created. But at the same time you have to give me the opportunity to defend myself.
And this is the main challenge, especially since next year the NATO summit will be held here and if we continue this story and others, this summit will be very important from a security point of view, like what we talked about earlier that has to do with, with the event that happened in Washington. So, this nature, the nature of the danger and threat can be of any kind. But in this specific case, we absolutely cannot say no to the USA, without the slightest doubt. And absolutely the prime minister has done very well to be direct in saying, we are a small country, we are a NATO member country. Our possibilities are limited and you have to do this other thing.
